"Development of new strategies to control animal and human tuberculosis"
Tuberculosis is still a disease of major concern in animal and public health. Control strategies in livestock varies worldwide, but test and slaughter is still one of the key elements for controlling the disease. In humans, zoonotic tuberculosis is quite prevalent in developing countries and multi-resistant strains of mycobacteria are emerging. New vaccination and therapeutic approaches in animals and human are being developed together with new control measures in domestic, wild animals and the environment.

"Enhancing innate immune responses to control infectious diseases in domestic animals"
The fast-acting innate immune response provides an important first line of defence against pathogens in contrast to a relatively slow adaptive immunity. Boosting innate immune responses can also aid the adaptive immunity. A variety of immune potentiators have been developed and applied to enhance the innate immune responses against infectious diseases in animals, including beneficial bacteria and/or their products, carbohydrates or small molecules. Moreover, some vaccines can enhance non-specific protection against heterologous pathogens through trained immunity.
